Is Cobie Smulders the Big Screen Maria Hill?

Yes, I could’ve probably posted a much more attractive picture of Cobie Smulders (like from her recent Maxim shoot), but I honestly couldn’t resist putting up a picture of Robin Sparkles, if only just because.

According to a report at Deadline (seen via Bleeding Cool), Cobie Smulders is number one in the running for the role of Maria Hill, even to the point that she might actually already be in negotiations. It’s not entirely surprising as Whedon has shown an interest in casting her before (back when he was maybe going to make that Wonder Woman movie), although it’s a bit interesting to hear that she might be beating out Morena Baccarin for the role, who has not only worked with Whedon before (Firefly, anyone?) but also certainly has the acting chops to play a head lady in charge (V, anyone?) but also certainly looks the part of Maria Hill.

That is, of course, assuming the reports that the character is Maria Hill, but I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t be. This would certainly make our previous guess for top female lead in the movie role valid, but the film still needs a Janet Van Dyne, which perhaps Baccarin could take. Either way, it’ll be interesting to see Robin Sherbatsky take on the role, and you can probably assume that if she does in fact land the part you might see Maria Hill popping up in quite a few of the various Marvel films, even to the point that Marvel might have her take over SHIELD in the movies as she did for a while in the comics.

Regardless, all Avengers news is pretty exciting news at this point, as the cast is pretty damn fantastic.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
