UPDATE: James Robinson recently said on Twitter that this was in fact a joke intended as a DM. So, you know, this is not true.
Yesterday on Twitter, James Robinson gave us the first clue as to what he’d be doing, post-“Earth 2,” in the form of this tweet:

The tweet was quickly deleted.
When Robinson first announced his departure from DC, fellow Multiversity editor Walter Richardson and I were discussing possible landing spots in the Marvel Universe for Robinson, and kept coming up short, but the Sub-Mariner was never one of the characters we focused on. Namor, character-wise, makes a lot of sense, as he tends to fall into Robinson’s sweet spot: a classic character with a potentially large, underdeveloped supporting cast. What makes this a bit strange is that Namor is a character that has always struggled to carry his own series, which makes it an odd landing place for a big name writer, fresh off of a 20-year relationship with Marvel’s largest competitor. In fact, Namor’s last series, 2011’s “Namor: The First Mutant” lasted less than a full year, even with its historically accurate and attention grabbing title. Perhaps Marvel hopes that Robinson’s built in fanbase, along with Namor’s recent appearance in the popular “New Avengers” would allow a series to be more successful than in the past.
Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
