Rumors are running rampant across the Internet today because of a report from Rich Johnston of Bleeding Cool – it seems he has heard from many sources that Jamie Bell (Billy Elliot, upcoming Tintin adaptation) will be the next Peter Parker. While Sony has been quick to say…well, not much of anything, this rumor has taken foothold fast. While many other contenders fit the high school vibe far better than the 24 year-old Bell (i.e. Josh Hutcherson or Zac Efron), the British actor has a significantly higher pedigree than the rest of the contenders and provides legitimate weight to the role. Plus, in my mind he matches the kind of awkward and nerdy look of Peter Parker to a T.
More on this as it develops, but I for one am really hoping for this rumor to be a true one.
