According to Variety by way of WILX-10 News in Detroit, Jena Malone (of Hunger Games and Saved! fame) is set to play none other than Carrie Kelley, aka Robin from Frank Miller’s seminal “The Dark Knight Returns”, in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Reporter Kirk Montgomery shared the information outside of the set near Michigan State University, and while his source is hilarious (they only filmed the guy’s hands and made his voice sound like a muppet to mask his identity), Montgomery claims his information is sound.

The idea that Malone plays Kelley fits everything we know about the movie, as Ben Affleck is playing an older version of Bruce Wayne/Batman and the film is titled Batman versus Superman, which fits Miller’s vision which had the two characters square off in highly memorable fashion. Personally, I’m into the idea, except for the fact that holy crap, how many more people can they put in this cast? It’s already over the top in its casting, and adding a Robin character just gives one more character that they desperately need to deliver screen time to.

Malone though is an exceptional actress (seriously, watch Saved! if you ever get the chance), and one who proved in her work in Hunger Games: Catching Fire (as Johanna Mason) that she can bring exceptional physicality to a role. I’m into that, just not the overstuffed nature of the movie now.

The movie arrives March 25, 2016. We’ll see how they make it work then.
