It’s Official: Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are Going to Adapt “Preacher” for AMC

We posted about this late last year, and now we know it to be true, with Rogen and Goldberg adapting and Sam Catlin (“Breaking Bad”) set to serve as showrunner and exec producer.

Many people will be crowing about how AMC is just throwing stars behind it, but frankly, you can’t find a much better fit. Rogen and Goldberg’s “This is the End” did a brilliant job pairing a healthy amount of crude blasphemy with humor and heart, and that really is the formula you need to follow to be successful in adapting Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s modern classic. The key to make it work is making sure all of the violence and blasphemy and hideous looks at people and people with hideous looks means something in terms of character, and I really think they can do it. As Rogen and Goldberg said in a statement:

“This is amazing! We’ve tried for seven years to work on Preacher and we’re so psyched AMC is finally letting us. It is our favorite comic of all time, and we’re going to do everything we can to do it right. Humperdoo!”

Guys. They quoted fucking Arseface in their official statement. What else do you want from them?

The only concern I have is that AMC is going to Walking Dead them, providing too much oversight on a project that frankly cannot exist with too much control over what should be allowed, because if that conversation happens, nothing will happen. So if AMC is serious about this, I hope they ask themselves before going down the path whether or not they are willing to bring The Saint of Killers’ final action to the screen.

And I don’t mean sitting down on a nice chair.

If the answer is yes, then by all means. If not, don’t even bother.

More on this as it develops, but as of now, I am very excited.
