Announced as part of today’s Batman Day festivities, writer James Tynion IV and artist Tony S. Daniel will be taking over “Batman” following writer Tom King’s 85+ issue run on the comic that began during the ‘DC Rebirth’ publishing initiative in 2016. Tynion, who is currently writing DC Comics’ “Justice League” and “Justice League Dark,” has written Batman throughout his career, beginning with a story he co-wrote with Scott Snyder in “Batman” #8 during ‘The New 52.’ Tynion went on to co-scribe the weekly series “Batman Eternal” and “Batman and Robin Eternal,” and the ‘DC Rebirth’ era of “Detective Comics.”

When describing what pushed him to write “Batman,” Tynion said, “I want to dig deep into the Bat himself and tell an epic story that pushes him to his absolute limits. I want to tell a Batman story like the kinds I grew up loving, one that embraces the horror and gothic elegance of Gotham and dives deep into Batman’s greatest villains.”

Daniel also has a long history with the Caped Crusader, having written and drawn stories in “Batman” and “Detective Comics.” Daniel is currently illustrating the ‘City of Bane’ arc in “Batman.” Inker Danny Miki and colorist Tomeu Morey will be joining the creative team in their debut in “Batman” #86 on sale January 8, 2020.

As Tynion and company join “Batman,” Tom King and artist Clay Mann will be continuing their “Batman” story in “Batman/Catwoman.” No release date has been announced for this project.
