In today’s big news: turns out James Wan has been officially selected to direct the Aquaman film coming out in 2018. This news comes from The Hollywood Reporter and posits that the one-time Saw director will tackle the King Of Atlantis’ debut feature film as early as next Spring after completing work on The Conjuring 2: The Endfield Experiment. Because I guess the Annabelle film doesn’t count?

This is, I think, a good move. While Wan definitely established himself as a director of popular yet surprisingly mediocre horror films, his work on Furious 7 showed that his skills as a director don’t end there. In fact, I would say he’s a more competent action director than he is a horror director, but that’s just me. What I would say is most interesting, though, is that Wan has shown a propensity to use very unique match cuts and transition shots in his films and I’m very curious to see if that will play into this film which likely take place at least partly underwater.

Aquaman is scheduled for release in 2018 from Warner Brothers and so far we know for a certainty that it will star Jason Momoa in the title role.

So what do you think about James Wan directing Aquaman. Good choice? Bad choice? You don’t care because you think Aquaman is dumb? Sound off in the comments below! (Unless you think Aquaman is dumb in which case meet me in the parking lot round back in ten minutes if you want an ass kicking.)

Sworn to protect a world that hates and fears her, Alice W. Castle is a trans femme writing about comics. All things considered, it’s going surprisingly well. Ask her about the unproduced Superman films of 1990 - 2006. She can be found on various corners of the internet, but most frequently on Twitter: @alicewcastle
