We told you guys! We so told you guys! Our intrepid reported Brandon Burpee has ears like a hawk, and we so knew Jeff Lemire would be working on Brightest Day. Now we have the proof.

Announced this morning is a brand new one-shot starring The Atom under the Brighest Day banner. The book comes out in July and the story will focus on early life of Ray Palmer and how “certain key events led a nerdy science whiz to the unlikely life of a superhero.” The art will be done by a DC newcomer by the name of Mahmud Asrar (whose work can be seen in Dynamo 5), and following the one-shot, the story will be continued in a co-feature in Adventure Comics.

This is incredibly exciting to see and is Lemire’s first major work outside of creator owned property. It’ll also be interesting to see how Lemire works on just a writing aspect because before now he had both written and drawn everything. I’m not that familiar with Mahmud Asrar’s art unfortunately, but I’m pretty pumped either way.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
