At The Mary Sue, First Second Books have unveiled artist Jen Wang’s next graphic novel, “Stargazing,” due out in the Summer of 2019. The book is a coming-of-age tale, focusing on two Chinese-American kids, Moon and Christine.

Wang told The Mary Sue, “I wanted to tell a story about the variation of experience within even a very specific community. Moon and Christine have so much in common on the surface. They’re both Chinese-American, the same age, grew up in the same city, love music, etc. And yet their worlds are so different. It’s a theme very close to my heart and I hope it’s something young readers who feel out of step with their communities will be able to relate to.”

This will be Wang’s fourth book at First Second, following this year’s “The Prince and the Dressmaker,” and “Koko Be Good” (2010), as well as 2014’s “In Real Life,” which was written by Cory Doctorow. On Twitter, she commented “it’s been a marathon spring/summer working on ‘Stargazing’ while doing press for ‘Prince.'” Unlike her previous books, Wang will not be coloring “Stargazing,” collaborating with Lark Pien (“Boxers and Saints”) on that instead.

“Stargazing,” which will be published on July 2, 2019, will retail at the cost of $12.99, and is set to be 224 pages long, and suitable for readers age 8-12. For more from First Second art director Andrew Arnold on the cover reveal, head on over to The Mary Sue.
