Dark Horse Comics President/Founder and writer Mike Richardson (“47 Ronin”) is teaming up with artist Megan Huang (“Princeless”), to publish a new 80-page, all-ages original graphic novel inspired by traditional Chinese folklore called “Jia and the Nian Monster.”

The book tells the story of Jia’s village, which is attacked by a monster each new year. This year, however, Jia and her friend Deshi have decided to fight back. For Deshi, this is the great adventure he had always dreamed about, but Jia sees this as a matter of revenge for her mother, who was killed by the monster five years ago.

In a statement, Richardson said, “I’m pleased to work with artist Megan Huang to bring this Chinese legend to life for readers of all ages. I’ve always been interested in Chinese lore and hope to impart that interest on a new generation of readers.” Huang said, “With this being my first original graphic novel, the pressure was on, but everyone involved has been so lovely and helpful. I’ve really pushed myself throughout the past few months to do Mike’s script justice and make the team proud.”

“Jia and the Nian Monster” is set for release in comic shops March 18, 2020, and in bookstores on March 31, 2020.
