You read that headline correct.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt, star of “Brick”, “Looper”, “The Dark Knight Rises” and many more films, and writer/director/star of “Don Jon”, will be starring in and directing an adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s “Sandman”. That he’s working on it with David Goyer, the oft-maligned but occasionally slightly less than maligned man behind a whole mixed bag of films and comic adaptations is alarming to many, but holy crap, JGL doing “Sandman”? That could be great, right?

A lot more will be coming about this, certainly, but the fact it’s happening in theory is a big step, especially with someone like JGL attached. I just have to say it’s too bad it isn’t “Y the Last Man”, as I still insist Gordon-Levitt would have been a perfect Yorick.

One way or another, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is someone who is a creative artist, and someone who would be willing to push “Sandman” in some very interesting and non-traditional directions. Here’s hoping he nails it, although I’m guessing fan response will not be strong to this announcement.
