ComiXology Originals have announced three new sci-fi/horror titles for October, or “Frightober” as they’re calling it. The first two, out next week, are the five-issue mini “Josie and the Pussycats in Space” (written by Alex de Campi with art by Devaki Neogi), and the historical fantasy OGN “Dracula: Son of the Dragon” (from writer Mark Sable and artist Salgood Sam). Releasing the following week on October 30 will be writer Michael Conrad and artist Noah Bailey’s graphic novel “Tremor Dose,” and the first issue of Chip Zdarsky and Jason Loo’s previously announced “Afterlift.”

“Josie and the Pussycats in Space” will see the band go touring for the USO – in space – only to find themselves adrift and pursued by alien monsters. The group will have to overcome their personal differences if there’s even a chance of them surviving. In a preview at Screen Rant, Alex de Campi said “I’m obsessed with the ‘haunted house in space’ genre — sure, Alien, but also Stanislaw Lem’s Solaris and Invincible. Truly, in outer space, nobody can hear you scream.” Neogi commented “It’s a fun and entertaining story that is built around the spirit of the pussycats as a band and as a team,” adding “it’s got character, humor, action and great storytelling at its heart. I hope the readers enjoy the book as much I enjoyed working on it!”

“Dracula: Son of the Dragon” combines fact with fiction by depicting the historical Vlad the Impaler’s transformation into the vampire of Bram Stoker’s novel. The synopsis reads, “As an adolescent in Wallachia, young Prince Vlad learns hard lessons in politics and betrayal and is held prisoner of the Ottoman Turks after being introduced to the Dark Arts at the infamous Scholomance in Transylvania. To survive he believes he must kill in the name of God in order to serve the Holy Roman Order of The Dragon —a very secret – but very real – society both Vlad and his father were members of — but at what cost?”

The synopsis for Conrad and Bailey’s “Tremor Dose” states, “Everyone dreams, but are these dreams our own? Who controls our thoughts when we’re sleeping? Ginn, is a young college student who has been having wildly disturbing nightmares featuring a man she has never met. When she finds a flyer with his picture and the question, ‘Have you dreamed this man?’ she submits to an interview that begins to unravel her perceptions of reality.” The book’s art will be a combination of black-and-white pencils, paint, and ink.
The first issue of “Josie and the Pussycats in Space,” and “Dracula: Son of the Dragon,” will be released on October 23, one week before “Tremor Dose,” “Afterlift” #1, and Halloween itself. Like all comiXology Originals, these titles will be free at no extra charge to comiXology Unlimited, Kindle Unlimited and Prime Reading subscribers, and print editions will be exclusive to Amazon.com.
