It looks like Marvel Studios are looking to expand the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the realms of television as Deadline just broke the news that ABC have green lit a TV pilot for a S.H.I.E.L.D. series to be written by Joss Whedon, who you might remember is the man largely responsible for Marvel’s The Avengers, as well as his brother Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen. Joss is also looking to direct as long as his schedule allows for it.

Could this pave the way for more live action Marvel TV shows? It seems like Marvel is set to regain the rights to the Daredevil franchise in October, could we be see a procedural law drama about a blind man dressing up as a devil and beating up criminals some time in the future? Or how about a Punisher series? Maybe even Heroes For Hire?

TV could end up being the prime way of bringing lesser known characters to live action with more serialised stories if this pilot is successful.

Alice W. Castle

Sworn to protect a world that hates and fears her, Alice W. Castle is a trans femme writing about comics. All things considered, it’s going surprisingly well. Ask her about the unproduced Superman films of 1990 - 2006. She can be found on various corners of the internet, but most frequently on Twitter: @alicewcastle
