Those who spotted Marvel’s solicits popping up online yesterday may have noticed quite a few “final issues” in there, but none are more heartbreaking than the finale to “Journey Into Mystery” being announced. Not that we didn’t know it was coming as it was always planned to have an ending (as Gillen confirms on Twitter), but it’s a bittersweet finale none the less.
As the solicit reveals:
JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #645
Kieron Gillen (W) – STEPHANIE HANS (A&C)
EVERYTHING BURNS AFTERMATH
– Kieron Gillen bids farewell to the cast of JIM!
– “Why Did Loki Do It? No One Knows.” Until now.
– The critically acclaimed epic reaches its climax as Loki’s future and past collide and nothing will ever be the same again. No, really. We mean it this time. Stop looking at us like that.
32 PGS./Rated T+ …$2.99
An issue full of Stephanie Hans art? All questions revealed? Throw that together with the above teaser image released in lieu of a cover that seems to tease the end of Kid Loki and the return of Adult (Regular?) Loki, and we’ve got what is sure to be the best “final” issue in the upcoming months of Marvel finales. Then again, we might be a bit biased.
But wait! There’s more! For those who are fans of Gillen’s work from this book, Gillen writes the following note on his Tumblr:
I’ll say this – which is more than I probably should – but one of the books I’m doing in Marvel Now will be of particular interest to the JIM-related Tumblr-Crowd. If my reading of you lovely lot is right anyway.
Hmm. “Thor” is relaunching again, isn’t it? You guys don’t think maybe…? Only time will tell. I mean, it’s either another Thor book or something along the lines of “Marvel Tumblrverse”, in which the heroes of the Marvel Universe blog about all their feels. (I’d read it, admittedly.)
We’ll have more on the Marvel solicits in our monthly Soliciting Multiversity column next week.
