Archie Comics have announced March’s one-shot comic “Jughead: The Hunger” will return as an ongoing series in October. The latest in the Archie Horror imprint, “Jughead: The Hunger” reimagined the hamburger-loving Jughead Jones as the latest in a bloodline of murderous werewolves, and Betty Cooper as a member of the family tasked with hunting them.
Frank Tieri (“Wolverine,” “Black Knight”) is returning as writer, stating, “We purposely left the door open with the one shot, we told you if you made ‘Jughead the Hunger’ a hit we’d make more – and since you more than held up your end of the bargain – here we are. Fans can expect more of everything they loved about the one shot now as we expand our universe – more werewolf Juggie, more bad-ass Betty, more conflicted Archie and more twists and turns than you can shake a severed arm at.”
Pat & Tim Kennedy (“The Death of Archie”) will succeed “Jughead: The Hunger” one-shot artist Michael Walsh on the ongoing’s artwork. Tieri commented, “They’re doing a great job, capturing the look and feel of the original as much as possible while still bringing their unique style to the table.”
The comic is due in stores and online on October 25, just in time for Halloween. While not mentioned in the press release itself, the covers reveal Archie Horror is being rebranded as Archie Madhouse. The imprint also includes the zombie comic “Afterlife with Archie” and the Satanic “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.” Tieri also wrote the 2015 limited series “The Hangman” for Archie’s superhero imprint Dark Circle Comics.
