In a Comic Book Resources exclusive, DC Comics announced an Aquaman/Justice League crossover, titled ‘Drowned Earth,’ for November. The storyline will be begin in “Justice League/Aquaman: Drowned Earth” #1, helmed by “Justice League Dark” writer James Tynion IV and artist Howard Porter, and run through “Justice League” #11, “Aquaman” #42, and “Justice League” #12, before concluding in “Justice League/Aquaman: Drowned Earth” #2.

“Justice League” writer Scott Snyder spoke about the event, emphasizing the nature of Aquaman and the ocean’s significance, saying “We wanted to create this big mystery around the idea that Earth seems to be one of the only planets that has vibrant sort of oceanic life. There just aren’t a lot of other places that have big living oceans. So we wanted to create a mystery around that — was there something that happened with Atlantis that caused that?”

The ‘Drowned Earth’ event is catalyzed by events that take place in September’s “Justice League” #8, wherein the Legion of Doom members Cheetah and Black Manta murder Poseidon, and banish him to the Graveyard of the Gods. Tynion told CBR that a group of forgotten “Sea Gods” will return to Earth with a cosmic flood that “literally transforms everyone who touches it into the aquatic, monstrous versions of themselves.”

Check out the solicitations for the event here. The ‘Drowned Earth’ crossover begins in “Justice League/Aquaman: Drowned Earth” #1 on October 31st.
