As announced by the Star, coming in 2014 because this is the way things go, “Justice League of America” is relaunching as “Justice League Canada” as part of the eventual fallout for all of the “Trinity War”/”Forever Evil” stuff going on. Written by Jeff Lemire and illustrated by an artist who apparently doesn’t have a name, the book is pretty much being directed entirely to its target market: the announcement is coming at Fan Expo in Toronto and the writer of the series is perhaps one of the Premiere Canadian Comic Talents working in the industry today.

Lemire’s actually done quite a bit of work starring Canada as a backdrop, including the monumental “Essex County” graphic novel trilogy. While I can’t imagine that this series will have too much hockey or people saying “eh” in it, if there’s one guy you’d call to do “Justice League Canada” it’s Lemire.

Lemire also promises a new Canada-based hero for the book, someone “that reflects a real part of our cultural identity,” as well as the return of Adam Strange.

So, any suggestions on who should be on the team, readers? I was going to suggest Terrence and Philip but I was hoping to find someone less culturally offensive overall. Either way, what a wonderful day for Canada, and therefore of course, the world.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
