Yesterday, saw Marvel’s Next Big Thing announced Kelly Sue DeConnick take over as writer for “Avengers Assemble”, now today they have just announced that Kathryn Immonen will be taking over from Kieron Gillen as the writer for “Journey Into Mystery” with Sif taking the lead role from Loki, CBR reports.

With issue 646, Immonen will be taking over as writer and the title will focus on Lady Sif, Asgard’s fierce female warrior. Speaking of the first arc, Immonen said: “We talked at length about what this story could be and what her story could be, and it all came down to…one single question: what does she want? I think Sif, above all, wants to be a better warrior.” She assured that this will be a journey of self-discovery for Sif and that she will be making some poor decisions and will dealing with the consequences of those.

In terms of the cast that will be showing up in the title, Immonen promised “familiar faces, but nobody I think you would expect.”

Joining Immonen on the title will be up-and-coming Italian artist Valerio Schiti, who Marvel Editor Lauren Sankovich says “draws great beasties…he’s making a splash at Marvel.”
