Some of you may remember that last year, Dynamite began releasing Green Hornet comics – both to tie into the upcoming film as well as an adaptation of Kevin Smith’s old and abandoned screenplay from the film. Now it looks like they’ll be doing it again, as Dynamite has acquired the rights to Kevin Smith’s abandoned Bionic Man screenplay, which they will be adapting into a series in a similar fashion. The book will be drawn by Jonathan Lau and Phil Hester, and Bionic Woman will be following in 2012.
In the press release for the title, Smith is noted as saying
“True story: when I turned in a script for The Six Million Dollar Man back in ’98, there was an exec who dismissed it as being more like a comic book than a movie. It’s an honor to head back into the trenches with the same creative team at Dynamite that made my Green Hornet script so readable and fun. It makes me moist.”
An interesting press release quote, to say the least.
For those unfamiliar with the concept, the Bionic Man is based on the Six Million Dollar Man, which ran on ABC in the ’70s. The show followed Steve Austin, played by Lee Majors, who was given bionic prosthetics from the government in order to make him into a super-solider/spy. It was a popular show, to say the least. Dynamite assures that fans of the show will enjoy the comic, and it will also be as open to new readers as the Green Hornet books were. So if you enjoyed that, here’s the next book to add to your pull.
