Kim and Spurrier’s X-Force Replaces Previous X-Force Books — How Offensive!

Yesterday we were given the Offensive teaser, and we had no particular clue as to what it was about. Today, we now know that this is because Kim and Spurrier are launching a new X-Force comic in February, and it is taking over the franchise.

After both “Cable and X-Force” and “Uncanny X-Force” end this January in a four-part crossover, both books are replaced by a new adjectiveless “X-Force” book that finds Cable banding together with Psylocke, Marrow and Fantomex. It’ll be a clandestine special-ops squad that holds to original X-Force tradition, and with neither team on the run or dealing with Revenants any more, the book will find the team back to protecting mutants in secret ways. As Spurrier describes, “This isn’t a steroidal macho-fest: It’s a slick, nasty, oh-so-grim beast that’ll cut your throat and blow up your headquarters before you even know it’s there.”

It sounds like “X-Force” will be a lot like what “Secret Avengers” is but with a mutant team now, which makes great sense based on where the book used to be. While the two X-Force books each headed in different directions, it’ll be interesting to see how they coalesce together to make one group again. And with all new costumes, to boot! Everyone loves new costumes!

Hopefully Si Spurrier will answer the one question that has been on Cable fans’ minds for years: will he ever get a gun his size? I’m hoping for a yes.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
