Kim Jee-Woon To Direct Adaptation Of Brubaker & Phillips’ First “Criminal” Story Arc

While I’m still waiting on a film of “Fatale” starring Antje Traue (because come on), it seems like a film adaptation of Brubaker’s and Phillips’ “Criminal” is finally going under way with a new director! And that director is Kim Jee-Woon, a Korean director famous for horror films such as I Saw The Devil and A Tale Of Two Sisters. He also made his English language debut with The Last Stand this year that marked Arnold Schwarzenegger’s return to solo actions films. I actually saw the film and I can heartily saw it was not terrible. So, that’s promising.

The adaptation of “Criminal”, however, doesn’t look to be adapting the whole series, just the first story arc titled “Coward”. Which means if it’s successful, we could very well see films of the succeeding story arcs. And hopefully the sequels won’t take as long as the Sin City sequel is. The film is also being produced by Jamie Patricof and Lynette Howell, who also produced The Place Beyond The Pines which was, for my money, the best film of this year.

So how’s about that? Even more creator owned comic books are moving towards film adaptations and that is always nice to see. Now, where’s my “Revival” TV show…

Alice W. Castle

Sworn to protect a world that hates and fears her, Alice W. Castle is a trans femme writing about comics. All things considered, it’s going surprisingly well. Ask her about the unproduced Superman films of 1990 - 2006. She can be found on various corners of the internet, but most frequently on Twitter: @alicewcastle
