Jack Kirby – if you hear that name and it means nothing to you, then you probably shouldn’t really be reading comic books. Kirby is one of the most influential comic book writers and artists of all time, revolutionizing and spearheading a lot of the great cosmic stuff in both Marvel and DC, as well as providing the original art for characters we know and love today. And now, Alex Ross is paying tribute.

The above teaser, featuring Kirby-themed characters with Alex Ross’ artwork, is Dynamite’s announcement of Kirby: Genesis. While we don’t know much about it, Alex Ross is on the project so that could really only mean good things. Those familiar with Ross’ work know that he is obsessed with the old generation of comics, referred to as the Golden Age. When Ross worked on Justice, it featured all Golden Age inspired characters, and he often works with projects that pay tribute to classic characters, such as Avengers/Invaders, The Torch, and the upcoming Invaders mini at Marvel as well as covers for the Green Hornet. It seems appropriate to me that if anyone would latch onto a Kirby project, it’d be him.

The above image was also accompanied by the following text:

Kirby: Genesis is coming!

Dynamite presents Alex Ross, and he’s bringing a friend!

Stay tuned for full announcement coming soon!

So keep your eyes and ears peeled. While we don’t know much, I expect great things.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
