Last year, Marvel promised us the Wedding of the Century, and they intend to deliver with “X-Men Gold” #30 this June. It only took Marvel nine months of Kitty Pryde and Colossus being together on “X-Men Gold” before Kitty popped the question to her “on again off again, you know how superhero romances work” lover on the final page of this week’s issue #20. To celebrate, Marvel have released a trailer:

While the wedding itself may come as a surprise if you haven’t been following Marvel’s previous promotions, the couple tying the knot isn’t much of a shock at all. Kitty and Colossus have been one of the few enduring couples in the ongoing X-Men melodrama. Deaths and cosmic shenanigans aside, their only true break in their blooming relationship since Kitty joined the team in “X-Men” #138 was during Brian Michael Bendis’s previous run. Kitty, disgusted at Piotr becoming the new Juggernaut, broke things off and left the team. Colossus’s new identity didn’t stick, but the break-up did, leading Pryde to a short-lived, ill-advised rebound romance with Star-Lord. Colossus, after freeing himself from Cyttorak, was brought under the thrall of the Phoenix Force and a future Apocalypse before returning to his usual amiable, steel-plated self for “Inhumans vs. X-Men.”

For a brief period, it seemed that the two might simply remain friends when Kitty wound up leader of the X-Men, despite founding a team around her former beau, but that obviously hasn’t stuck. Marvel is shooting for a June wedding, penned by occasional X-Men scribe and regular “Gold” author Marc Guggenheim with Paulo Siqueira (“Earth 2: World’s End”) providing pencils for the mutant couple’s nuptials.
