Kot and Brown to Defend You

After a teaser-less Thursday, Marvel is back — this time with an exclusive teaser reveal over at CBR. Featuring the word “DEFEND” in red, white and blue by Ales Kot and Garry Brown.

Ales Kot at Marvel makes sense given the announcement of his co-writership on “Secret Avengers” for four issues, but what’s interesting here is Garry Brown, artist of “The Massive.” “The Massive” is a creator-owned series Brown is illustrating with Brian Wood at Dark Horse, but it’s not over yet — so seeing Brown here, while infinitely exciting because Brown is fantastic, is interesting. It’s unknown if Brown will draw both, though as of December’s issue (#18) Brown is still on “The Massive.”

So what is this? Well, red, white and blue certainly spell patriotism, perhaps even a patriot clad in armor as CBR speculates. After all, the Iron Patriot is a character in “Secret Avengers” and was in a starring role in Iron Man 3 piloted by Rhodes. #WARMACHINEROX

And, as a note, Kot’s co-writer on “Secret Avengers” is Nick Spencer, who wrote “Iron Man 2.0” starring Rhodey. Time to put on our tinfoil caps and speculate about the Rhodes Conspiracy! It’s about time Rhodey got his own book again, isn’t it?

All jokes aside, I’d love a James Rhodes book. If that’s what this is, sign me up.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
