After it was leaked online earlier today, Sony have released the red-band trailer for the Kraven the Hunter movie, directed by J.C. Chandor, and starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the classic Spider-Man villain:

The trailer reveals Sergei Kravinoff (who is portrayed as a teenager by Levi Miller) has been reimagined as the son of a Russian mobster (Russell Crowe), who leaves him for dead after he is mauled by a lion during a hunting trip. However, the lion spares him, and imbues him with its blood, granting him superhuman abilities, including the power to communicate with animals (unlike the comics’ Kraven, who derived his powers from a mystical serum.) Kraven (whom Taylor-Johnson portrays with an American accent) proceeds to cut a bloody swathe across the world, killing poachers and mercenaries, before eventually confronting his father.

Also shown in the trailer are Ariana DeBose as Kraven’s love interest Calypso, who in the comics was a voodoo priestess; Fred Hechinger as the present day version of his half-brother Dmitri Smerdyakov, who is the master of disguise Chameleon in the 616 universe; and Alessandro Nivola as the Rhino, reimagined here as an assassin capable of transforming himself into a thick-skinned monster. We also see the title character don his iconic lion mane vest, and a vision of multiple spiders descending on him, presumably foreshadowing an eventual confrontation with Spider-Man.

The R-rated Kraven the Hunter will be released in theaters on October 6. It will arrive a few weeks before the release of Spider-Man 2 on the PlayStation 5 on October 20, featuring Jim Pirri as another, more faithful version of the classic villain. In the meantime, you can also check out the teaser poster below:
