Today, director Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman, Monster) confirmed, via Twitter, that Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids, Saturday Night Live) will star opposite Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman, Fast and Furious) in the highly anticipated sequel to last summer’s box office hit Wonder Woman. Wiig was reportedly in talks to have a co-starring role in the movie, but today’s tweet confirmed those reports.

So excited to confirm the most thrilling news. Yes! It’s true! So incredibly lucky to welcome the sensationally talented Kristen Wiig to our Wonder Woman family. Can’t wait to finally work with one of my favorites. And SO excited by what we have planned. #Cheetah!!!

Kristen Wiig is best known for her comedic roles such as in Bridesmaids, the Despicable Me movies, Paul, and Knocked Up. She does, however have a wide berth of acting chops that will surely be on display in Patty Jenkins’ sequel. Cheetah has been one of Wonder Woman’s main antagonists since her creation. Cheetah first appeared in “Wonder Woman” #6 in 1943 and was created by William Moulton Marston. While there have been many variations of the character, it is likely that we will see the most current, archaeologist Dr. Barbara Ann Minerva, who is cursed by an ancient deity transforming her into the monstrous Cheetah.

The sequel, which will be set during the Cold War in the 1980s, is slated to be released on November 1, 2019. Stay tuned for more information about the Wonder Woman sequel here at Multiversity Comics.
