Well that’s that, then. According to Deadline – and as of yet unconfirmed by Marvel – the upcoming Netflix versions of Jessica Jones and Luke Cage have been cast in the form of Krysten Ritter and Mike Colter, respectively. While confirmation hasn’t arrived yet, Deadline seems fairly convinced of it, and I for one am down with the idea of those two being cast.
Ritter, who I mostly know as Jesse Pinkman’s girlfriend Jane from “Breaking Bad”, is a high quality actress mostly known for a sassy disposition and her comedic timing. Given the assumed source material – Bendis and Gaydos’s “Alias” – you want someone with a quick, biting tongue, and Ritter is certainly capable of delivering that. Given her performance in “Breaking Bad”, she’s also capable of giving a role significant weight when it’s needed. She’ll do an exemplary job with the role, and I’m looking forward to seeing it.
Colter, on the other hand, I only have one experience with, and that’s from a trailer I saw last week for what appeared to be a “Halo” movie (or maybe it was a video game, it’s hard to tell so far). He’s a respected actor though that’s known for his work in “The Good Wife”, “The Following” and “American Horror Story”, so he has a TV background and he certainly looks capable of bringing the physicality necessary to the role.
Now that the roles are apparently set, the rest of casting and filming will certainly will follow. We’ll cover it as that information comes in, but we’re curious: any thoughts on these castings?
