Image Comics imprint Skybound have announced “LEGO Ninjago: Garmadon,” a five-issue series by writer/artist Tri Vuong that will see the franchise’s lead villain, Lord Garmadon, coming to the rescue of a village outside Ninjago City. “Has Garmadon turned over a new leaf since his disappearance?,” asks the synopsis, “or is this just the first step in his master plan of finally defeating Master Wu and the ninja forever?”
The comic is the first book to be announced as part of Image & Skybound’s partnership with LEGO license holder AMEET Publishing, which was revealed back in June. Sean Mackiewicz, Senior VP and Editor-in-Chief at Skybound Entertainment, said, “When it came to our first LEGO comic book series launch, we knew it had to be full of action, adventure and heartfelt drama. Everything that’s made the LEGO Ninjago franchise so iconic. We’re excited to expand the official Ninjago mythos in partnership with our friends at AMEET and the LEGO Group to bring you the grand return of the bad guy you love to hate — Lord Garmadon!”
Series creator Tri Vuong is best known for the webcomic “Strange Tales of Oscar Zahn,” and for creating with Irma Kniivila the character of “Everyday Hero Machine Boy,” who will star in an original graphic novel at Skybound next year. He said, “It’s been such a great opportunity to play within the LEGO universe. The LEGO Ninjago franchise has all the qualities that I love in a story; action, adventure, humor and compelling characters. In our new series, we’re paying homage to the LEGO Ninjago franchise while expanding the mythology with new stories on this beloved property.”
“LEGO Ninjago: Garmadon” #1 will be released in comic book stores, and on digital platforms like Amazon Kindle, Apple Books and Google Play, on Wednesday, April 6, 2022.
