Following J. Michael Stracynzski & Shane Davis’s “Superman: Earth One” and Geoff Johns & Gary Frank’s “Batman: Earth One” comes “Teen Titans: Earth One” from Jeff Lemire and The Dodsons, Rachel and Terry, as announced yesterday at Emerald City Comic-Con.
In an interview over at
Comic Book Resources, Jeff Lemire talks in-depth on the graphic novel. Continuity-free, it’ll introduce a new team of Titans in a world that has no adult superheroes – which means no sidekicks. The roster will comprise of characters from the 80’s Wolfman/Pérez run. Cyborg, Beast Boy, Starfire, Raven and Jericho are confirmed to be on the team, and I’ll be damned if that ain’t Terra on the cover.

While “Teen Titans: Earth One” will feature all new versions of the 80’s Titans, it won’t feature any of the Silver Age sidekicks who founded the team. Says Lemire, “These books have no continuity, so they’re not linked to the other “Earth One” books. They’re not linked to “Superman: Earth One” or “Batman: Earth One” yet. Without a Batman or a Wonder Woman, there can’t really be a Robin or a Wonder Girl, yet. I couldn’t really use those characters unless I introduced the adult versions of those characters.” Honestly? This sounds like a dream title. I’m not too fond of Lemire’s for-hire work, but when you give him an entire world to play with, which seems to be the case here, then I am
sold. Add on The Dodsons, two insanely talented illustrators whose presence here is made more exciting by the announcement that Terry will be coloring Rachel’s inks on top of his pencilling duties, and this sounds like
the book to look out for from DC, especially if the preview art from ComicBookResources is any indication
“Teen Titans: Earth One” will come to stores on November 19. The sequels to “Superman: Earth One” and “Batman: Earth One” (from the respective creative teams of the original books) will also arrive in stores sometime in 2015 as will the long-awaited “Wonder Woman: Year One” from Grant Morrison and Yannick Paquette.
