Lemire, who previously collaborated with Sorrentino on “Green Arrow,” “Gideon Falls,” and “Joker: Killer Smile,” described the series as an attempt to do something different from those dark books. He said, “This book is part Cold War thriller and part deep space sci-fi, but all grounded in an alt-history take on the first animals sent to space. This book is full of mystery, adventure and intrigue and Andrea and I have both tried to push ourselves into new storytelling territory.”
Sorrentino said he fell in love with “Primordial” the moment he read Lemire’s original pitch. “It’s thrilling, it’s noir, it’s moving and it’s full of heart,” he said. “It’s also weird and crazy and it’s pushing me to new, exciting art approaches. Can’t wait for readers to have the first issue in their hands in September.”
“Primordial” #1 releases on September 15, and you can read a preview at Space.com now. It is the second new series from Lemire to have been announced this week, following “Mazebook,” which will also be published by Dark Horse in September, and illustrated by the writer himself.
