Via Screen Rant, Dark Horse Comics have announced “Leonide the Vampyr: Miracle at The Crow’s Head,” the first in a new series of one-shots, penned by Mike Mignola with art by Rachele Aragno. Set in a world outside the Hellboy Universe, the comic tells the story of a small coastal village, that encounters a shipwreck “containing a small coffin and its even smaller inhabitant. What is originally considered a miracle quickly becomes a horrifying ordeal for the village and all of its living residents.”
Mignola and Aragno conceived the story after he saw a drawing she posted on Instagram of a young vampire girl. “Sometimes you just look at a character and you know their stories,” Mignola says. “That’s pretty much what happened here. Almost no effort went into it – I just looked into her spooky little eyes and the stories came spilling out.” Aragno adds, “From there we started talking about the idea of a collaboration between us, and my vampire portrait could be the basis of a story. When Mike sent me the outline, I went crazy with joy.”

Aragno is an Italian cartoonist best known for creating the fantasy series “Mel the Chosen” (known in her homeland as “Melvina.”) She previously contributed a variant cover for “Young Hellboy: The Hidden Land,” and has also worked with Skottie Young on the continuation of “I Hate Fairyland” on Substack. “Leonide the Vampyr: Miracle at The Crow’s Head” will also feature coloring and lettering from Mignola’s usual collaborators, Dave Stewart and Clem Robins.
The comic will be released on October 5, with a main cover by Aragno and Stewart, and a variant cover by Mignola and Stewart.
