This time of year, many of us are dreaming about finding Artist Editions, the complete Breaking Bad Blu-Ray collection, or anything we listed on our Multiversity Holiday Gift Guide under our Christmas trees/Hanukkah bushes. But we are lucky, adult comic nerds, to whom the holidays are nice excuse to pick up some extra goodies. To kids, this is the “most wonderful time of the year,” and I think all of us want to make sure that as many kids as possible can share that sentiment.

That is why, when something cool like this comes up, that allows us to help out the underprivileged and also grab some cool stuff for ourselves, we want to share it.

Ron with part of last year's haul

Ron Marz, comic book writer and fellow Mets fan, is holding his fourth annual “Comic For Tots” fundraiser. Ron has donated a bunch of autographed comics, scripts, and even script reviews for up and coming writers, as well as solicited donations from some amazing creators, and is auctioning all these off. Every penny he raises from these auctions goes to buying gifts for Toys for Tots – a charity run by the US Marine Corps that gives presents to those whose families can’t afford them. Last year, Ron raised over $2300 – let’s help him top that this year.

I am a proud owner of an autographed “Green Lantern” #49, signed by Ron and Darryl Banks, that I got last year as part of this event. In fact, I dig it so much, this is my Twitter avatar:

This year’s auctions are all being handled through eBay here, and including some pretty incredible items, such as:

A “Superman Vs. Mohammed Ali” print signed by Neal Adams

a Thor sketch by Tom Fowler

a Mike McKone Batwing painting

a “Death of Superman” Platinum Edition, signed and sketched by Dan Jurgens

An original “Fantastic Four” #10 Photostat signed by Stan Lee!

That is just a sampling of the great stuff available. Ron is going to be adding more throughout the week, and into next week, so please take a few minutes, and hopefully a few bucks, and donate to this great cause. More info can be found on Ron’s website.

When not writing, he can be found playing music, hanging out with his kids, or playing music with his kids. He also has a dog named Lola, a rowboat, and once met Jimmy Carter. Feel free to email him about good beer, the New York Mets, or the best way to make Chicken Parmagiana (add a thin slice of prosciutto under the cheese).
