Image Comics have announced a new series from writer Jeff Lemire and artist Dustin Nguyen called “Little Monsters.” The pair previously collaborated at the publisher on “Descender,” and its sequel series, “Ascender.”
“Little Monsters” will follow a group of child vampires who are living “amongst the ruins of humanity,” destined to never age and live an “endless life of innocence and games and childhood,” Lemire says. However, the first issue’s solicitation teases that there will be “shocking events” that divide the group and change the course of their lives, setting them onto a path that will see their innocence destroyed.
Lemire stated that he and Nguyen wanted to continue to work together on new projects, but they also “knew we needed to change direction and try something totally different from that sweeping space epic;” it was from that intention that “Little Monsters” was developed. Lemire clarified that despite the series being about vampires, “it is not a horror book,” and described it instead as “a character study of what it would mean to be truly young forever and the things that growing up costs us all.”
“Little Monsters” #1 is scheduled for release on March 2, 2022. You can check out a host of preview pages introducing some of the series’ cast here.
