Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez are back for the next chapter in the “Locke & Key” series, “Locke & Key: Hell & Gone” a ‘Sandman Universe’ crossover event. The IDW/DC comic crossover is set to release in October of 2020.

“If you think you can unlock the gates of Hell and just invite yourself in, you must be dreaming,” says the series tagline; the gates of Hell have traditionally been unlocked with the Omega Key in the “Locke & Key” universe, however the cover here shows the famous key to Hell from “The Sandman” story ‘Seasons of Mist.’ One of the most interesting teases here is that the key on the cover is trapped inside the same summoning circle that Morpheus was in the first issue of “The Sandman.” While Gaiman has often stated his reluctance to have Morpheus appear in any new “Sandman” properties, this crossover certainly has a place for Lucifer Morningstar, the ruler of Hell, as well as the numerous denizens of The Dreaming.

Speculation aside, Joe Hill has been heading another mature DC label, Hill House recently, making him a clear collaborator with both DC and IDW. The announcement comes in the wake of the wildly popular new Locke & Key Netflix series. This series releases almost a year after the last “Locke & Key” comic, “Dog Days” in November of 2019, and, if it’s a proper event as the original tweet promises, it will be the first full story arc since ‘Alpha & Omega’ in 2013.

“Locke & Key: Hell & Gone” releases October 2020.
