Via The Beat, Dark Horse Comics have announced “The Lonesome Hunters,” an original, four-issue miniseries by writer/artist Tyler Crook. The book follows an elderly monster hunter, who’s forced out of hiding after an encounter with a young girl and some “chaotic creatures. As the beasts invade their tenement, they set off on a supernatural road trip to stop these ancient evils in a story that explores the ways that youth informs adulthood and how early traumas can haunt us in old age.”

“The Lonesome Hunters” will mark the latest in a long line of projects from Crook at Dark Horse, and his second writing credit after “Harrow County” (created with Cullen Bunn.) “I started thinking about ‘The Lonesome Hunters’ almost 10 years ago,” he told The Beat. “It’s the sort of idea that I just kept coming back to, again and again. Because it’s the kind of story I want to read. One that deals with generational trauma and the various ways people cope with the pain and confusion of being human — but ya’ know, with a cool magical sword and weird monsters and stuff.”

“The Lonesome Hunters” #1 will be released digitally and in comic book stores on June 22, shortly after the next “Harrow County” spin-off, “Lost Ones,” begins on May 11.
