Dark Horse has announced the miniseries “Lucky Devil” from writer Cullen Bunn (“Harrow County”), artist Fran Galán (“Goya: The Terrible Sublime”) and letterer El Torres. IGN has the first look at the series, a horror comedy which kicks off with an exorcism gone wrong.
The book follows Stanley, a downtrodden everyman who becomes possessed by a powerful demon. When the demon’s banishment leaves him in possession of unholy strength and power, Stanley sets out to punish everyone who’s wronged him over the years, drawing a cult of worshippers. Unfortunately, stealing all the attention draws the anger of the demons of Hell.
“There’s some real darkness in these pages, but there’s humor, too,” Bunn said in Dark Horse’s press release. “Stanley isn’t the type of guy you’d expect to see leading a mass movement to a new infernal religion, but he’s gathering followers who shout, ‘Hail, Stanley!’”
“He’s struggling to keep his relationship with his new girlfriend from falling apart, which can be tough when an exorcist shows up telling you he botched the ritual that set you free,” Bunn continued. “And he’s got troubles ahead, because the devils that rule Hell don’t like the idea of a mortal wielding all that power. And they have demonic assassins on the case.”
“Lucky Devil” #1 delivers itself from evil (and onto the shelves) on August 4.
