Spanish artist Maria Llovet (“Faithless”) is returning to BOOM! Studios with another erotic thriller, the five-part “Luna.” Written and illustrated by Llovet, the series takes place in the late 1960s, and sees a girl named Teresa joining the hippie commune Family of the Sun, which promises the true power of enduring love — and immortality. What follows is a tale of sex, drugs, and blood magic, as Teresa soon learns the truth of her new family, and its charismatic leader.
“‘Luna’ is a lysergic story about love and destiny, but also betrayal, lies, and the lengths to which we would go in order to protect the ones we love,” Llovet says of the series. “This is the first story I’ve ever written for the monthly comic book format, and I’m very excited to share it with readers everywhere.”
Llovet gained prominence with her graphic novels “Loud” and “There’s Nothing There” from Black Mask Studios. 2017’s “There’s Nothing There,” which was scripted by Patrick Kindlon, followed socialite Reno Selleti as she’s pulled into a bizarre occult ritual by her celebrity friends. 2019’s “Loud,” which Llovett wrote and illustrated, followed multiple characters (ranging from sex workers to vampires) as they attempt to survive a night at the hottest club in town. In 2019, she joined with “100 Bullets” writer Brian Azzarello on the six-part dark fantasy miniseries “Faithless” from BOOM!. A sequel to that series recently concluded, and another will also be released next year.
BOOM! Studios Executive Editor Sierra Hahn praised Llovet’s work. “Every one of Maria’s stories is a thrilling, charged journey into the heart of a woman’s desires, and ‘Luna’ is no exception,” Hahn says of the upcoming title. “Maria continues to stun audiences with her richly detailed illustrations and stories that never hesitate to explore the darker side of humanity’s impulses, no matter where it might take them.”
“Luna” will hit shelves in February 2021. Print copies will only be available in local comic shops. Digital copies will be available on all major providers, including comiXology, iBooks, Google Play, and the BOOM! Studios app.
