Marvel Comics have announced that a new ongoing “Moon Knight” series will be launching in July with the creative combination of writer Jed MacKay (“Black Cat”) and artist Alessandro Cappuccio (“Mighty Morphin Power Rangers”). The latter will be making his debut at Marvel on the title.

The series will follow on from the character’s recent story arc, ‘Age of Khonshu’ in “Avengers,” with Mr. Knight launching his Midnight Mission. Those who attend are seeking protection, and Moon Knight is the one to give it to them. Meanwhile, Marc Spector has returned to the streets in his various guises after turning his back on his god, Khonshu, who is no longer worthy of Spector’s worship, and held in the prison Moon Knight put him in.

MacKay stated “I’m very excited to be working with Alessando Cappuccio on the continuing adventures of one of Marvel’s biggest messes – Moon Knight!” He continued that, after “his disastrous attempt to take over the world in the ‘Age of Khonshu,’ Marc Spector (et al) has retreated to what he knows – busting heads on the streets. But despite betraying his god to the Avengers, the Fist of Khonshu’s obligations remain the same – to protect those traveling at night.” MacKay closed by teasing that Mr Knight’s new Midnight Mission “doesn’t sit well with everyone, and hidden threats circle Marc’s new start from the shadows….”

Cappucio said, “Debuting in Marvel Comics with one of my favorite characters is a dream come true! The story is a new beginning for Moon Knight, Jed did an excellent job as usual on the scripts and I’m delighted to be working with a professional of his caliber.”

Moon Knight was created by Doug Moench and Don Perlin, and has featured in various ongoing series, with his last solo outing being “Moon Knight Annual” #1 in September 2019. The character is set for an Disney+ series adaptation with Oscar Isaac cast as the lead.

“Moon Knight” #1 will be releasing on July 7 with a Steve McNiven cover. You can get a glimpse at some of Cappuccio’s internal artwork in the series’ teaser trailer here.
