From the website that brought you “Carol” Watch, we now have a brand new watch article for you: Maggott Watch!
Anyone who has visited this site before should be well versed in writer Brandon Burpee’s unabashed love for the character Maggott. Whether he is writing about the character himself, commenting on articles not about Maggott with comments about Maggott or tricking others into writing about Maggott for his own amusement, Brandon never lets us (or you, the reader) forget about young Japheth.
As Maggott repeatedly pops up in conversations about upcoming X-Books, Brandon has since invented a new article for us here at MC to track the progress Maggott makes throughout Marvel’s various titles, mutant or non-mutant related, and we are here to confirm for you, 100%, that Maggott is actually in a comic book.
Last month, a young mutant appeared in Ultimate X-Men #3 (with a brief appearance in #1 as well) that suspiciously reminded us of Japheth, but had no name to go with him. We kept mum on the subject, however, because outside of Brandon’s cries, there was no proof that it was actually Maggott.
However, in today’s Live Blog about the upcoming Spider-Man arc “Ends of the Earth”, our very own intrepid reporter Brandon Burpee managed to get in the final question. After asking if Maggott would join the event (and being ignored, rightfully), Brandon asked one more time: “Is that a no on Maggott?” We thought all was for naught, but alas! Associate Editor Ben Morse replied:
It’s always a no on Maggott. … Actually, Ultimate Maggott is currently appearing in Ultimate Comics X-Men. Also, X-Men Senior Editor Nick Lowe has a bizarre fondness for him. Why am I talking about Maggott in a Spider-Man liveblog?
Vindication! Our beloved Maggott returns! If we had some kind of award to give Nick Spencer, Paco Medina and the whole Ultimate Comics X-Men crew, we absolutely would give them the First Ever Official Post-2003 Inclusion Of A Live Version Of Maggott Award, and it would be in the shape of Eany. Or Meany. Either or.
We’re still waiting for his true 616 return, but for now, we’ll take this. Ultimate Comics X-Men #4 is on stands tomorrow, and will hopefully have lots of Maggott action for you.
