Magic: The Gathering’s most hot-headed Planeswalker is returning to comics this August. “Magic: The Gathering – Chandra: Trials of Alara” will follow Chandra Nalaar on a new, four-issue journey to Alara – one of Magic’s most chaotic planes.
According to Newsarama, Chandra will join with fellow Gatewatch member Jace Beleren to protect an Alaran village in grave peril – which is all in a day’s work for two of Magic’s most noteworthy Planeswalkers. But what the duo’s not prepared for is a new problem that, according to the series’s description, “can’t be burned away.”
Writer James Asmus (“Gambit”) is chronicling this chapter of Chandra’s adventures, taking over writing duties from previous “Magic: Chandra” writer Vita Ayala. Eric Koda (“Extraordinary X-Men”) will illustrate the series’s interiors, while artists S.L. Gallant (“G.I.JOE: A Real American Hero”) and Siya Oum (“Jessica Jones”) will provide covers.
There’s no word on how, exactly, this series will tie in to the ongoing Magic narrative that most recently culminated in the War of the Spark card set and novel, or whether this comic signals a return to Alara within the game itself. But we’ll all likely find out more this summer, when Chandra returns to both Alara and comic shops everywhere.
