It was theorized after the solicits came online, but it appears that the team that brought Barry Allen into the New 52 will be exiting the book to collaborate on something new as confirmed on Buccellato’s website. With a run spanning 30 issues including annuals and specials, the team has stated that it is time to Move Forward (sic) as they collaborate on something new to debut in March. This is the second ostensibly normal team change slated for November/December, or the third if you count runs that that ended less agreeably.
Their run, which saw Manapul continue over from working with Johns pre-“Flashpoint” and established Barry in the post-“Flashpoint” world, with the story seemingly climaxing with the introduction of the new Reverse Flash before ending on a Zero Year tie-in that seems like it might tie lightly into the events that caused “Flashpoint” (if the solicit and attached cover is to be believed). It’s been an exciting time for Manapul to play around with the medium in one of DC’s more visually enticing reads, with Manapul taking a lot of risks with composition. With this and JH Williams III’s “Batwoman” ending, it’s a sad day for DC interiors — but it’ll be interesting to see whatever Manapul has next since he has at least a six-month lead in order to really play around with the art.
Fans of the book also have Buccellato’s “Rogue” book for DC’s ‘Forever Evil’ event to look forward to.
Manapul and Buccellato’s final issue of the series will arrive in November with issue #25. Here’s the solicit to their final issue:
