What is Superior? Well, I couldn’t really tell you. Released a little while ago on the internet (and apologies from me with a total late pass on this news), it was announced that Millar and Lenil Yu would continue to work together beyond their current six-issue run of Ultimate Comics Avengers. All we know is the title, and that it will involve “a hero coming to save us all.” Granted, this seems like the way you could describe MOST comic books, but the teaser images for Superior is what makes it stand out – they’re all real life images of people, death, and destruction.
Now, on one level this is a tad creepy and unsettling. On the other, it’s ultimately intriguing. What could Millar be writing now? He’s got Kick-Ass 2 planned for August and Nemesis still on-going, but Superior seems like it could be a tad bit more serious based on the imagery.
If I had to guess (and granted, there is no REAL basis for this guess), it seems like Superior could possibly maybe be the long awaited sequel to American Jesus: The Chosen. Originally planned for a trilogy, the first book was released with a quiet three issue mini that was really quite great, and it featured a HUGE twist/open ending that would be perfect for something like Superior, based on the images chosen. While I have no idea if this will actually be the case, it would be interesting to see more from that series.
But hey, as far as I’m concerned, if we ever see the ending of War Heroes I’ll die happy enough.
