Marvel Comics will conclude their 80th anniversary by leaping forward 80 years into the future with a new series of one-shots set in 2099. November’s comics will consist of “2099 Alpha,” “Conan 2099,” “Punisher 2099,” and “Fantastic Four 2099,” and Marvel have now announced December’s run will include “Doom 2099,” “Spider-Man 2099,” “Ghost Rider 2099,” “Venom 2099,” and the conclusion, “2099 Omega.”

“Doom 2099” #1 will be written by Chip Zdarsky with artwork by Marco Castiello. When speaking to Marvel about the one-shot, Zdarsky described as a “total dream project” having loved the original “Doom 2099” series. Being such a fan of the original, Zdarsky stated that they are going to “hold onto the spirit of the original, of Victor Von Doom starting from the bottom” but add some “new twists” to it, joking that Victor will have an “astounding 2099 hip hop career.”

Writer Nick Spencer and artist Jose Carlos Silva will be the creative team for the next one-shot, “Spider-Man 2099” #1. The issue will see Miguel O’Hara trying to prevent the Marvel Universe from an uncertain universe.

In addition to “Spider-Man 2099” #1, Spencer will also be writing “2099 Omega” #1, with Gerardo Sandoval illustrating the book. This issue presents a future which “ends here” that is being run by Doctor Doom unopposed by heroes.

“Ghost Rider 2099” #1 will reimagine the original Ghost Rider of 2099, with writer Ed Brisson and artist Damian Couceiro taking on the task. Brisson stated that the reimagining will pay “homage” to the original series from the 90s, but still take “the character in a new and exciting direction.” Finally, he teased “Lots of cameos for sharp-eyed readers.”

The final one-shot to be announced is “Venom 2099” #1. This one-shot will be from writer Jody Houser and artist Francesco Mobili. When asked to describe the one-shot using only one word, Houser responded: “Help.”

For those unaware of the history surrounding the Marvel 2099 imprint, it started out with four titles in 1992, “Doom 2099,” “The Punisher 2099,” “Spider-Man 2099” and “Ravage 2099,” and quickly expanded to include many more, including “Ghost Rider 2099” and “X-Men 2099.” In recent years, the actuality of Marvel 2099 has changed, with the setting originally being a possible future of Earth-616, but now it simultaneously occupies a potential future for Earth-616 as well as being the reality of another Earth, Earth-928.

The Marvel 2099 one-shots will be available both in print and digitally in December.
