Dan Slott tweeted this morning that a BIG SPOILER for his work on Spider-Man debuted on Fox News, and that you should wait until “Amazing Spider-Man” #692 to find out what that’s all about (with #688 in stores today). I was inclined to listen to the man. Unfortunately for me, other sites don’t really care about this kind of thing and put the spoiler in the headline. So I know what the “spoiler” is despite not wanting to, and decided hey, screw it, MC readers might like to know as well. Granted, it’s only a matter of minutes until someone tweets a disparaging remark towards this on your feed and spoils it for you (probably).

With that in mind, spoiler alert, I suppose. If you can’t wait for the reveal as the story intended, here’s the news:

As part of Spider-Man’s 50th anniversary, it looks like he’s getting a sidekick. As told to Fox Nation, issue #692 sees young (15 years old) Andy Macguire becoming Alpha in a story that pays homage to Spidey’s origin and introduces him as the new sidekick hero; or, as it is put in the article the Robin to Spidey’s Batman.

As the article reads,

In this story, we find that Peter Parker’s days as photographer for the Daily Bugle are behind him and he’s now a scientist at a research firm. Andy is part of a student field trip that visits Parker’s lab. He’s in the wrong place (or perhaps the right place) at the wrong time when Parker’s invention malfunctions and zaps him with great power. Parker – haunted by the way he got his own super abilities and how his failure to use them led to the murder of his beloved Uncle Ben so many years ago – feels an even greater responsibility to help young Andy. He feels he must help him discover his powers and teach him how to use them responsibly.

The story will be written by current “Amazing Spider-Man” writer and will be illustrated by  frequent collaborator Humberto Ramos. Here’s the partial cover to issue #693, for those who want their first look at Alpha:

You can read more about it over at the interview at Fox Nation.

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
