Apparently too excited to wait for the 3:00 PM slated press conference, Marvel has announced their epic Architect-envisioned event — AVENGERS Vs. X-MEN.

Written and illustrated by Marvel Architects Brian Bendis, Jason Aaron, Jonathan Hickman, Ed Brubaker, Matt Fraction, John Romita Jr, Olivier Coipel and Adam Kubert, the book features all out war between Marvel’s two biggest franchises. The impetus of the event will be that the Avengers learn that the Phoenix Force is coming to Earth, and they attempt to extract a certain someone over in the mutant camp before the Phoenix can arrive, but the X-Men aren’t willing to give her up very easily.

As Marvel’s press release reads, “The Avengers and X-Men have learned that the all-powerful embodiment of both death and rebirth known as the Phoenix Force is on a crash course for Earth…and it needs a new host to unleash its immeasurable power. But what is the shocking decision tied to the Phoenix’s return that will pit the Avengers against the X-Men? And when good friends become bitter enemies, what does this mean for the future of the Marvel Universe?”

The book will ship twice monthly and is slated to run for 12 issues, with writers swapping duties between books. Each print issue will include a free copy for download on the Marvel App, and four issues (or, two months worth of books) will represent one “act” of the story, each illustrated by one of the aforementioned artists.

There will also be a prologue issue illustrated by Frank Cho, dealing with the two pivotal characters to the series — the Scarlet Witch and Hope Summers, with Brian Bendis writing the first part and Jason Aaron writing the second.

There will still be a live press conference at 3:00 PM today as well, hosted by Livestream, so we’ll get you more information as we have it. But for now, we know that “It’s Coming” and now “War Is Here.”
