Marvel Announces “Cataclysm: The Ultimates Last Stand”, Once Again Prove Us Right

Ok, look. Nobody likes to hear “I told you so.” That’s so dull, right? And snooty. Mostly snooty. So I’ll simply provide a few links and get to the news: Link One, Link Two, Link Three, Link Four and, just to keep in the back of your mind, Link Five.

Now. Where were we? Oh yes. Comic Con.

Announced during the Marvel Ultimate Panel in San Diego, a new series written by Brian Michael Bendis and illustrated by Mark Bagley was announced titled “Cataclysm: The Ultimates Last Stand” in which Galactus, after having apparently spent four issues of “Hunger” just walking through space, arrives at the Ultimate Earth and eats it — therefore ostensibly ending the Ultimate Marvel U.

It’s not the first time Marvel has nearly killed the Ultimate Marvel U. It probably won’t be the last time, either. With Bendis and Bagley re-uniting for it, though, after their monumental and historical run on “Ultimate Spider-Man,” you can tell that Marvel is trying to put a sense of import behind this.

Just, y’know, expect a) another relaunch and/or b) for Miles to end up in the 616 and as a member of the Mighty Avengers. Because if we were right about the first part, chances are we’re going to be right about the second. Not to be braggy or snooty, but, well, you know.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
