In news that seems both inevitable and unbelievable, Marvel has announced, via comics internet powerhouse Entertainment Weekly, a new “Howard the Duck” ongoing series. Due to his cameo at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy, it seemed like it was only a matter of time before Marvel put Howard in the spotlight again.

But I don’t think any of us, in our wildest dreams, could have guessed it would have come from the pen of Chip Zdarsky (“Sex Criminals”) and the pencil of Joe Quinones (“Captain Marvel”). That’s just bananas.

In a brief interview, Zdarksy and Quinones lay out their basic plans for the book, which appears to be fully in on the humorous approach, although Quinones also teases some sci-fi stuff, reminding us that Howard is actually an alien.

All you really need to know about the book comes from this money shot of a quote from Chip:

Expect a humorous tale of time and sexuality! I’ve basically just copied Matt’s first three Sex Criminals scripts and replaced characters with Howard and some C-level superheroes.

I think it’s going to be fun! We’ll get to explore the Marvel Universe with a very short tour guide and a very good artist and me, a man who dresses as Garfield on the weekends.

Look for the book on March 4, and check out Zdarsky’s variant cover and some design work from Quinones below.
