Apparently Marvel enjoyed the Trial of Jean Grey so much they wanted to run the whole X-Men and Guardians of the Galaxy mash-up back again, but this time, BIGGER. It’s an event called “The Black Vortex”, and it will find “All-New X-Men”, “Legendary Star Lord”, “Guardians of the Galaxy”, “Nova”, “Captain Marvel” and “Cyclops” crossing over as they face the might of The Black Vortex, an ancient Marvel artifact that basically turns everyone’s skills to 11, unleashing the cosmic awesomeness deep within each other.
The most exciting element to me is that they’ll be bookending the event with Alpha and Omega issues drawn by Ed McGuinness, hearkening back to X-Men events of yesteryear. It’s a massive get together of comics, and I for one am a bit sour on it. Event tie-ins are fine, as they can still do their own thing and you can choose to buy or not. Crossovers like this would make a fan of, say, “Captain Marvel” buy five comics they wouldn’t normally buy to get the whole story. Great business idea, but kind of sucky for those who are looking to read a fun comic about Carol Danvers.
This event starts in February, and I’m sure we’ll be covering the hell out of it. What are your thoughts? Feeling a bit overwhelmed by all these shenanigans, or super excited for yet another X-Men and Guardians mash-up?
