Announced today at USA Today, it looks like She-Hulk is coming back to the forefront and starring in her own brand new series at Marvel. Illustrated by the fantastically talented Javier Pulido and written by Charles “So Hot Right Now” Soule (so hot right now), the new book launches in February.
Soule remarks that the goal is to make Shulkie as iconic as her cousin, and while the last female Hulk book (“Red She-Hulk” by Parker and Pagulayan, among others) was unfortunately cancelled, I still say there is hope. After all, She-Hulk has a strong history of starring in her own cult-favorite Marvel books.
And seeing as Soule comes from a background as an actual lawyer, I think this may just be one of the most interesting pairings of writer/character we’ve seen. Pulido is also an instant selling point, at least for me, and anyone who has seen his recent stint in “Venom” knows that he’s an incredibly vibrant artist who can do a lot with the space that a superhero lawyer can get away with. After all, look how popular “Daredevil” is.
So it’s a pretty dynamite team, is what I’m saying.
This very much goes in line with a rumor we’d heard of that Marvel was planning more focus on their female characters in lead roles for Phase Two of Marvel NOW!. Throw in a Spider-Woman and Black Widow book and I’m sold.
This would also explain why a new trade collection of Dan Slott’s “She-Hulk” popped up on Amazon, also to be released in Februray.
