San Diego, San Di-shmego, am I right? Lets announce everything now!
Revealed at Newsarama, Marvel will be shooting for the stars and bringing back the previously abandoned Marvel Knights line of comics. Originally debuted in 1998 with Kevin Smith and Joe Quesada on “Daredevil” (among others), the line gave us such memorable books as “The Sentry” and “Madrox”, as well as Brian Bendis’ career at Marvel. However, the line went kind of dead and abandoned some time ago — until now.
Re-launching in October, we’ll be seeing three new Marvel Knights books coming soon: “Spider-Man” by Matt Kindt and Marco Rudy first, “Hulk” by Joe Keatinge and Piotr Kowalski in December, and —
Hold up. Let me double check that I am reading this right. Yes. I am.
Ladies and gentlemen, Brahm Revel of “Guerillas” on “X-Men,” both writing and illustrating. Pardon me when I declare: holy shit.
New books from Kindt, Rudy, Keatinge and Kowalski are all very cool, don’t get me wrong, but Brahm Revel and “Guerillas” is the best comic you may not have read yet. Originally launched at Image before getting collected at Oni with a Kickstarter to publish the second volume, “Guerillas” is just flat-out great and features gorillas and guerilla warfare. It’s one of our favorites here at Multiversity.
Now Revel is writing and drawing an X-Men book for Marvel in November? Wow. What a get!
Marvel has been doing some surprising moves as of late, with Andrew Hope on “Fantomex MAX” for example, but if nothing else it seems like Marvel is truly interested in taking chances on new and less known talents right now. That’s a great thing. It means new ideas in the mix, new visions to mess up the pool and, at the very least, a definitive stamp that they are moving away from the perceptions of stagnation perpetrated by having somewhat of a “stable” of creators regularly producing their books.
It’s only five-issues, but I’m already excited. Shut up and take my money.
